Copley High School and Herberich Primary School Earn Purple Star Designations

Copley High School and Herberich Primary School have both received Purple Star designations from the Ohio Department of Education.

Military children move every two to three years and face unique challenges as a result. The Purple Star School Program is designed to help schools respond to the educational and social-emotional difficulties military-connected children face during their transition to a new school and keep them on track to be college, workforce and life-ready.

“We are honored to once again be recognized with a Purple Star designation for Copley High School,” said Principal Eric Smith. “We are dedicated to supporting our military-connected students and providing them with the resources they need to succeed in school and after graduation.”

The state’s Purple Star Advisory Board established a set of important criteria that schools must meet to be considered for a Purple Heart designation.

To qualify, schools must have a staff point-of-contact for military students and families who serves as the primary liaison between them and the school and must maintain a dedicated page on their website featuring resources for military families. Schools must also complete one optional activity that benefits military students and families.

The Purple Star designations received by Copley High School and Herberich Primary School signify that both schools have demonstrated commitment to serving these students and families.

“Supporting our military students and families is an important priority and we want to do all we can to meet their needs,” said Herberich Primary School Principal Bill Kerrigan. “Our military children and their families will benefit greatly from this Purple Star designation.”

Each Purple Star designation is valid for three years and both Copley High School and Herberich Primary School will need to apply for another designation renewal in the fall of 2024 to be a member of the Class of 2025.
