Kathy Casper, physical education teacher at Copley-Fairlawn City School District's Fort Island Primary School, was recently awarded the Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award by the Ohio Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (OAPHERD).

Safety and Security Update
The safety and security of our students is our top priority. On March 20, the Copley-Fairlawn City School District hosted a community forum on school safety, where approximately 140 parents, community members, staff members and local law enforcement in attendance commended the district for its past and present response to school safety. Additionally, concerns were voiced over the need for school resource officers, door barricades, additional cameras, metal detectors, and mental health support for our students.

Copley High School Students Named Academic All-American Students by the National Speech and Debate Association
Copley High School Senior Alexander Conner and Junior Audrey Milligan were both named Academic All-American Students by the National Speech and Debate Association. In order to be named an Academic All-American, students must earn the degree of Superior Distinction (750 points) from the National Speech and Debate Association, a GPA of 3.7 or better, received a score of 27 or higher on the ACT, or a 1300 or higher on the new SAT, and demonstrate outstanding character and leadership.

Additionally, we would like to share some other accomplishments which you will not see on the report card. Lastly, information was reported about our performance index score which was inaccurate. We believe it is important to share accurate information with our community.

Did you know Copley-Fairlawn has low class sizes to help target student instruction?
Copley-Fairlawn has low class sizes to help target student instruction. Of seven area districts that are similar to Copley-Fairlawn, we have the lowest K-4 class size with an average of 21 students per class. Our average 5th and 6th grade class size is 26 students per class ranking us closely behind three of the similar districts that average 23, 24.5 and 25 respectively. You Be The Chemist State Champion
CFMS 8th graders Aristo Liu and Jasmine Walker competed in the state finals of the You Be The Chemist Challenge in Toledo, Ohio on Saturday, April 29th. Jasmine advanced through the first and second elimination rounds before being eliminated. Aristo won the state championship and will compete at the national event on June 19th in Washington, D.C.

Copley Innovators and Copley Engineers Take 2nd and 3rd Place at the SourceAmerica Design Challenge
Congratulations to the Copley Innovators (Team Captain Hiba El Rassi and team members Kevin Du, Aaron Lampner, Colton Murray, Georgia Shay, Madeline Wiley), the Copley Engineers Team One (Team Captain Greg White and team members Chad Brown, Armando Consolacion, Sydney Demechko, Jacob Druga, Ryan McClaren, Jalen Serra), and Coach Mr. Harder on their 2nd and 3rd place finish at the National SourceAmerica High School Design Challenge.
