• The school-based mental health model is a collaborative approach that brings clinical knowledge and services to the child and consultation, training and intervention support to educators in schools. School based mental health services involve the clinical intervention provided to students and their families to help students succeed. Working in conjunction with school counselors and school psychologists the school based mental health team provides additional assistance and support to identified students to help overcome daily struggles and difficulties. Each school has an identified referral person such as the school counselor and/or school psychologist. This person has the necessary knowledge of the signs and symptoms needed to support an appropriate referral. Once the referral is made (with consent from the child’s parent or guardian), our staff meets with the parent or guardian and child at school as well as in the home to address the child’s needs.

NASW According to the National Association of Social Work, "School Social Workers are an integral link between home, school, and community in helping students acheive academic success. School Social Workers work directly with school administrators, school counselors, teachers, parents, and students providing leadership and guidance in forming school discipline policies, mental health intervention, crisis managment, and supportive services. As part of an interdisciplinary team to help students succeed, school social workers also help to facilitate community involvement in the schools while advocating for student success."
