HPS PTA Receives Phoebe Apperson Hearst National PTA Family-School Partnership Award of Merit
The Herberich PTA is one of five nationwide to earn the Phoebe Apperson Hearst National PTA Family-School Partnership Award of Merit. The award recognizes programs that effectively implement the National PTA’s National Standards for Family-School Partnerships. Herberich ESL teacher, Ashley Kimberlin, wrote the application with help from PTA President Mrs. Romi Brozeit, based on three major special events held for ESL families annually: a Thanksgiving Feast, Multicultural Fair, and Spring Family Picnic. All of these events provide opportunities for families to interact, practice English language skills in a non-threatening environment and support their child’s educational experience. In addition, the PTA encourages family involvement through a conversation group, library volunteer group, after school programming, and PTA leadership opportunities. Many parents of students are in the ESL program are also in the PTA and help to grow membership each year.
“When families are engaged, students succeed. That’s why we’re proud to recognize the Herberich Primary School PTA with this award of merit. They truly understand that brining family engagement into the school can positively impact student success,” said Betsy Landers, National PTA President.
