Mrs. Calcei

Biography:

My name is Melissa Calcei, and I am thrilled to have your child in my class this year.  I am looking forward to a very busy, exciting, and fun-filled year! Since I will be spending a lot of time with your child, I 'd like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself, both professionally and personally.

I earned my Bachelor of Science from The University of Findlay in December 2004 and completed my student teaching in the third grade at Arrowhead Primary. Upon graduation from college I was a substitute teacher in Copley-Fairlawn, a LD tutor and coordinator of the First Grade Reading Program at Herberich Primary. This is my third year teaching third grade at Fort Island Primary. I am currently pursuing my Masters of the Arts in Elementary Education Literacy at The University of Akron.  My husband is the Assistant Director of Admissions at The University of Akron. We have a boxer named Kami and she is our pride and joy! Last, but not least, my husband and I are expecting our first child this spring.

My goal is to empower each student to reach his/her full potential. I will create an atmosphere of mutual respect where everyone is treated fairly with compassion. I believe that all children need to feel good about themselves and their accomplishments. All children have something to contribute and need to feel proud of these contributions. I believe that building self-esteem and confidence in children is one of the most important tasks a teacher can face. If a child is confident in his or her ability, almost anything can be accomplished!

Parent-teacher communication is very important. Please do not hesitate at any time to call or e-mail me should you have a question or a problem, and I will do the same with you. I encourage you to call, to question, check our classroom website, and stop in and visit!  You know your child better than anyone in the world. I truly feel that you are the most important person in your child's life, and your involvement and support means a great deal. If we work together, it will be a very beneficial experience for us all.  I am looking forward to a great year!
