Dear Arrowhead Families,

February is shaping up to be a very special and busy month at Arrowhead Primary School. We have begun the second semester and are hard at work in all of our classrooms.  I would like to take a moment to recognize Mrs. Digiacobbe and the 1st and Second Grade students for their recent performance of “The Big Chill” at Copley High School. I am sure you will all agree that it was a great show!

Our Everyday Math Wall of Fame Program is going strong. This past month we inducted 85 students who had mastered the Bronze, Silver or Gold levels of the EM Facts Workshop. So far this year, 279 students have had their names added to the Wall of Fame under the various levels. Several students have already completed the entire program. This month, the class that has the most inductees, will win a classroom pizza party.

Our “Book Fair Luau” will take place the week of February 13-17 in the PTA room. Arrowhead students will have the opportunity to peruse and purchase a wide variety of scholastic books. Proceeds from the sale benefit all of our classrooms in the form of more books for classroom libraries.

On February 16, we will hold our “Winter Conference Night.”  Your child’s teacher will contact you should they wish to have a conference. However, if you do not receive a request and would like to schedule a conference, please contact your child’s teacher.

This year we will be holding a “Family Math Night” on February 28 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. This is an opportunity for students to showcase their skills and for families to learn some of our “Everyday Math” games. More information and a reservation form will be coming home shortly.

Congratulations to Mrs. Nadine Draper, second grade teacher, for being selected as PTA’s Outstanding Educator for this school year. I would also like to congratulate Mrs. Melody Hunter who was selected as PTA’s Helping Hands Award winner for this year. We are very fortunate at Arrowhead to have such a wonderful faculty and supportive PTA.  With the amount of support that you provide at home, I know that we are easily the best school in the district!

Thanks for all of your continued support! – Mr. La Badie

Happy 2012! At this point we usually are knee deep in snow and the thought of snow days are running rampant. However, I don’t think any of us are complaining about the mild winter so far. I would like to thank all of our Arrowhead families for their generosity during our holiday canned food drive. We collected over 3,000 non-perishable items along with a bunch of winter clothes and toys.

The coming weeks hold many opportunities for students and families to be involved in many exciting events at Arrowhead. Our annual Red Cross Blood Drive will take place at Arrowhead in the Library on January 30 from 2-8 p.m. We also have our first and second grade winter concert at CHS on January 24 at 7 p.m. This year’s production is “Snow Day!” Mrs. Digiacobbe and the students have been practicing very hard for this show which will surely be entertaining for all.

Coming in February, our annual Valentine’s Day Parties will be held at 2:45 p.m. on February 10. The Arrowhead Book Fair will be February 14th -16th this year. As part of the book fair week we continue our other February tradition, Kindergarten Grandparents Day on the 14th which allows grandparents to visit the school, see a concert and attend the book fair with their kindergartener.

Please remember that we have a great opportunity for students to develop their math skills through the Everyday Math website. Every student in grades 1-4 have the opportunity to be inducted into the Everyday Math Wall of Fame by mastering their basic facts through the EM Facts workshop. We have already inducted a number of students and it is my hope that by the end of the year that every Arrowhead student has his or her name on our wall.

It is hard to believe that the school year is almost halfway over. On behalf of the students and teachers at APS I would like to thank all of you for your continued support
of our school!

Best Wishes –

Mr. La Badie
