Please look for your child's high frequency words to come home on Tuesdays.  These are words that will be found in the weekly stories that the children read in their Harcourt reading books. You may even encounter some overlapping with your child's 100 Book Challenge Power words!

**During the first full week of school, you saw your child's words come home on the metal book ring that you provided from the school supply list.  This is your child's "Word Ring".  He/she will add to the ring weekly, as their high frequency words are hole-punched and brought home.  Please keep this ring at home, and make sure to review these words daily, as your child will continuously see these words in context!

**On Fridays, or Thursday if there is no school on Friday, there will be a test over the story of the week.  This will include applying/reading the vocabulary words as well as answering comprehension questions.  These assessments include targeted areas from the Ohio Common Core Standards that your child is responsible for learning in First Grade.  We have been reading the sentences together and the children have been choosing the correct answer on their own.

Poetry Notebook
This notebook is coming home every Friday as part of your child's weekend responsibilities.  Please listen to your child read the weekly poem as well as any previous poems.  Sign as the Lucky Listener and return the notebook to school on Monday.  Remember, a Lucky Listener can be anyone!  Please refer to the letter inside your child's notebook if you have any questions. Thank you for your help!
