Biography:
I am married to Tom Welsh and we have three daughters. My husband graduated from Hoban H.S., and I graduated from St. Vincent H.S.- that makes us a "blended family"- especially during fall and winter sports. We both graduated from the University of Akron. I have a B.S. in Elementary Education with a history minor. I have computer science certification and a reading endorsement. I have masters degree in elementary education and reading. I have my National Board Certification and have the honor of being a Jennings Scholar.
I LOVE spending time with my family and friends. I love to read (mysteries and children's books.) I love comedies- both on the big screen and on television. I enjoy baking and eating, cross-stitching and painting. During the school year, I'm lucky if I can keep up with the laundry! I love live theatre, especially musicals. I have taught "Understanding Literacy Development and Phonics" for about six years at The University of Akron. I really enjoy teaching at Fort Island and I love the people I work with each ay. I am starting my 34th year of teaching. I taught third grade for 12 years and this is my 22nd year in first grade. The first graders keep me thinking and acting young!
