Local Scholarship Program

Copley High School is fortunate to have a strong and diverse base of financial support for local scholarship assistance. Over the past few years both the number and value of scholarship offerings have grown considerable. Seventy-seven different local scholarships, worth almost $100,000 were awarded last year to graduating Copley High School seniors. The funding of these awards is generously supported by local civic groups, memorial scholarship funds, in-school support groups/activities, and community businesses.

The application process is both simple and effective. A generic scholarship application is made available to all seniors on February 1 of each year. The form is to be completed and returned to the guidance office by March 1.   Between March 1 and the middle of May, sponsoring groups/individuals contact the guidance office and schedule a time to read and evaluate all of the applications. When a student has been selected to receive a particular local scholarship, his/her application is then removed from the pool of candidates so that scholarship funds can be dispersed to a significant number of qualified graduating seniors. Presentation of all local scholarship awards is made at the annual "Awards Assembly" held a few days before graduation.

The criteria for local scholarships varies according to the guidelines set forth by the sponsoring groups. Areas evaluated by most sponsoring groups include: GPA/class rank, course of study, extra curricular involvement, future goals, community service involvement, and family financial need. Different groups have different priorities as to which factor(s) most influence their choice of scholarship recipients. For example, in some cases academic achievement is the prime selection factor while in other cases community service is by far the most important criteria considered.

Copley High School is indeed proud to be able to offer substantial local scholarship opportunities. Any groups/individuals interested in sponsoring new scholarships should contact the Copley High School guidance office.
