answer.
- Do we have an alcohol
and drug problem in the Copley-Fairlawn City School
District?
- We have the same substance abuse problem that every school
in the nation has.
- What substances do our
youth use?
- Our teens most frequently use tobacco, alcohol, and
marijuana. We have also seen LSD (acid) and Ecstasy abuse,
as well as abuse of prescription drugs (i.e., Ritalin, Vicadin)
and over-the-counter drugs such as Corisidan.
- What can a parent do to
keep their child alcohol and drug-free?
- There are conflicting
opinions about the dangers of marijuana. Where can I learn
more about this drug?
- What should I do if I
know my child is using one or more substances?
- One of your options always includes calling the C.A.R.E.
Coordinator, Mrs. Toni Ehrman at 330-664-4831. She
can offer suggestions or make a referral to a counselor who can
work with you and your teen to determine if a substance abuse
problem exists.
- What is the community
doing to help prevent substance abuse in our youth?
- Our police departments finance the D.A.R.E. program which is
delivered to students in grades 1, 3, 6, 8, and 10.
Both departments also are diligent in enforcing the laws that
fight substance abuse. Co-Presidents Mrs. Kap
Chermak and Officer Jack Simone facilitate the Community
Prevention Coalition which includes representatives from the
safety forces, the governments, churches, businesses, and the
parent community. Marcie Mason facilitates Healthy
Communities/Healthy Youth that fosters the development of assets
in all youth. Read about these efforts on the page
entitled “Components of the C.A.R.E. Program.”
