2005-2006 CHS HAS TWO NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTS!!
Copley High School is pleased to announce that Tracy Meng and Daniel Wilkerson are two of the 16,000 high school seniors who are Semifinalists in the 51st National Merit Scholarship Program. Tracy and Daniel will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth a total of approximately $33 million, to be offered next spring. The 16,000 Semifinalists in the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program were designated from some 1.3 million program entrants in over 21,000 high schools nationwide. Students entered the competition by taking the 2004 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), used by NMSC as an initial screen of entrants. Representing less than 1 percent of each state's high school seniors, Semifinalists are the highest-scoring program entrants in each state, and they are the only participants who have an opportunity to continue in the competition for Merit Scholarship awards to be offered next spring. Before they can be considered for Merit Scholarship awards, Semifinalists must advance to the Finalist level of the competition by fulfilling additional requirements that include having an outstanding academic record, being endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and submitting SAT I scores that confirm the student's earlier PSAT/NMQST performances. Other important information about the student's educational interests and goals, as well as participation and leadership in school and community activities, is provided in the detailed scholarship application the Semifinalist and an official of the high school must complete. NMSC will announce the 2006 Merit Scholarship recipients beginning next April. Congratulations, Tracy and Daniel!! |
