COMMENDED STUDENTS IN THE 2008-2009 NATIONAL MERIT PROGRAM Copley High School is pleased to announce that seniors Mason Averill, Olivia Downey, Alex Li and Grace Patuwo are among the 16,000 high schools seniors that are Semifinalists in the 54th National Merit Scholarship Program. Mason, Olivia, Alex and Grace will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for one of approximately 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth a total of approximately $33 million, to be offered next spring. Before they can be considered for Merit Scholarships awards, Semifinalists must advance to the Finalist level of the competition by fulfilling additional requirements that include having an outstanding academic record, being endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and submitting SAT I scores that confirm the students’ earlier PSAT/NMQST performances. Other important information about the students’ educational interests and goals, as well as participation and leadership in school and community activities, is provided in the detailed scholarship application the Semifinalists and an official of the high school must complete. NMSC will announce the 2009 Merit Scholarship recipients beginning next April. Congratulations Mason, Olivia, Alex and Grace! Copley High School is pleased to announce that seniors Ryan Brennan, Alex Kotran, Deanna Ruman, and Jacob Varley have been named Commended Students in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program. Some 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the competition for Merit Scholarship awards to be offered next spring, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than one million students who entered the 2009 Merit Program by taking the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Congratulations, Ryan, Alex, Deanna, and Jacob! Congratulations also are extended to Brittany Powell who has been named an Outstanding Participant in the National Achievement Scholarship Program. Participants scored in the top 4 percent of more than 150,000 Black Americans who requested consideration in the program when they took the 2007 PSAT. Congratulations Brittany! |
