FAQs

Q: So what is Key Club all about, anyway?
A: To sum it all up, it's about service and having fun. Key Club is a great way to get service hours for college and high school. You also get to have fun with friends while doing all these events.

Q: Okay... but why is it named Key Club?
A: The 'key' in Key Club is actually an acronym... it stands for 'Kiwanis Educated Youth'.

Q: What do I have to do to join up?
A: First of all, attend a meeting (Wednesdays at 7:00 AM in the auditorium), and see if you like it. If you do, $11 in dues for the entire year is needed to be an active member. That, and of course, service. For first-year members, 7 hours of service will get you an active membership. For every year after that, it takes 12 hours, one for each month. Keep in mind that this is just a minimum, and most members actually go over. The Key Club International website actually says that members must be willing to perform 50 hours of service each year. You also have to attend at least one Kiwanis Dinner every year.

Q: Kiwanis Dinner? What?
A: The Kiwanis dinner is provided by Kiwanis, and you are simply a guest. Kiwanis is simply Key Club's parent organization, and the dinner is a chance to get acquainted with them. The dinners are at 6:15 PM on Wednesdays, and usually last about an hour to an hour and a half.

Q: I want to do an event an officer mentioned, but do I just show up?
A: Sign-up sheets for different events can be found just inside the entrance to the auditorium during meetings, on the table. Make sure you can do it first, though. If in doubt, check your schedule. Sign ups are usually availible for more than one week.
